About Us

Queer Black Women Alliance is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to provide a safe space for building healthy friendships and community, through social gatherings and community outreach. We encourage overall wellness through mental health awareness and support queer Black women in pursuing entrepreneurship and higher education. We are the recipient of a Best of Austin – Best Builder of Queer Black Community Award given by the Austin Chronicle in 2023, BlaQ Award from Whatsinthemirror, and a Human Rights Campaign certificate for our contributions in the Austin area.

President/ Board Director

Arijah Rashid is the founder of The Queer Black Women Alliance which originally started as a community outreach program. She felt Austin, Texas was lacking in spaces for queer black women to find friendships and community and started her program to remedy that issue.

She is a navy veteran with 7 years’ experience

in executive, cyber security, and legislative administration. Advocacy has always held a special place in her heart as she served as a Suicide Prevention Advocate.

Annette Ngene

Board Director/ Secretary

is dedicated to supporting LGBTQ+ rights. As a black woman and straight ally, Annette recognizes the discrimination faced by the queer black women.

Nekaybaw Watson

Board Director/ Secretary

is a queer black woman that wants to challenge systems of oppression by assisting in building a safe community for others like her. She believes there are many different spaces.

Micky James

Board Director

is an experienced business leader with focuses in engineering, entrepreneurship, and health coaching. She graduated from Texas Tech University with her B.S in Civil
